"No mountain you won't climb up...coming after me!"

Yourself away
Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God"
I especially find wonder in the Shepherd leaving the 99 to risk it all for the 1! Even when the shepherd finds the 1, the journey and the risk to return back to the 99 is still ahead of them. Grace discovers us and grants us citizenship into the Kingdom but doesn't stop there! The lost sheep doesn't have to "Lead the Shepherd" (find his/her own way) back to 99! Grace continues to lead us every step in the Kingdom as well. The meta narrative of Western performance based theology falls apart and loses all traction in light of Luke 15. I see the tension of the "journey home vs performance theology" in the discipleship process of Sonshine staff and campers. I think we as the Church are really good at preaching Grace gets you into the Kingdom, but we lose our "Grace" way on the "Journey Home to the 99" and somewhere/somehow performance based theology sneaks in and leads us astray! I know I am the biggest violator and victim of this! Sorry guys, my bad!
I have been experiencing this unique "Peasant Eyes" as I look at my new born daughter. She is/will be/was, that lost 1 that the Shepherd went to Calvary for and risked it all. Even 7 days old, she has been born with the sin disease. It is the most deadly disease known to the human race! It has a 100% death rate, yet it goes unmentioned in the news and in social media. It is worse than the debt, it is worse than Russian tampering, Govt over reach, etc........A cure has been around for 2000+ years on this side of eternity, however, no hospital, doctor, government program, or even her parents can administer it to her.
Come shepherd come! Come Lord Jesus come!

(If this post is crazy all over the place, I have been running on a few hours of sleep for the past week! =)
Performance based theology is such a bummer. I’ve found myself seeking comfort from it without even realizing where my thoughts were going. It’s definitely a foothold of the evil one in our modern day society. Thank goodness the reckless Love of God comes after us in those moments.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the summer sleep schedule is starting early for yoooohhhhhooooouuuu!!!
Absolutely! So often our "lost-ness" is in fact due to putting our hope, faith, and love in our performance. No Bueno! We must always remember, "These are the Lord's chips!"
ReplyDeleteReido, so true! We are good at understanding that grace gets us in... but then from there we seem to lose sight of our true need. Thanks for sharing! Praying for little Taves! Can't wait to meet her!
